Safety Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what is not allowed on Vennu, what we check and what we don’t, how to report someone, and what we do after a report. It applies to everyone who uses Vennu — for dating, friends, group nights and events — and it is part of our Terms of Service.
Colorado Safety Policy. This page is Vennu’s safety policy under Colorado law (Colo. Rev. Stat. § 6-1-731.5). Resources for members in Colorado are listed under Help and resources. It also contains our policy for handling harassment reports under Connecticut law (Conn. Gen. Stat. § 21a-440).
1. What is not allowed
The full rules are in our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. In short, you may not use Vennu for:
Conduct that threatens anyone’s safety
Any act, threat or attempt of: homicide; sexual assault or any other unlawful sexual behavior; assault or other violence; kidnapping; stalking; harassment; drugging someone or making them intoxicated against their will; robbery; theft; or any other conduct that threatens public safety or another person’s safety — on the app or when you meet in person.
Other prohibited content and conduct
- Anything involving minors: Vennu is for adults 18+. Any sexualization or exploitation of a child ends an account permanently and is reported to the authorities (see our Child Safety Standards).
- Sharing, or threatening to share, intimate images of someone without their consent, including AI-generated or altered images.
- Unwanted sexual messages or images, and sexually explicit content on your profile.
- Hate speech, discrimination, bullying, threats and intimidation.
- Scams and fraud: asking members for money, “investment” offers, extortion.
- Fake profiles, false identities and pretending to be someone else; misrepresenting your age.
- Spam, advertising, selling and any other commercial use without our written permission, including escort or sex-work solicitation.
- Sharing other people’s private information without consent.
- Illegal activity, bots, scraping, faking your location, and creating a new account after a ban.
2. Consent
Engaging in sexual conduct with another person without the other person's consent violates this Safety Policy, is against the law, and may result in criminal or civil liability.
Consent must be clear and freely given, and it can be withdrawn at any time. A person who is asleep, unconscious or incapacitated by alcohol or drugs cannot consent.
3. Criminal background checks
VENNU DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS OR IDENTITY VERIFICATION CHECKS ON ITS MEMBERS. How we keep Vennu safe
We do not run criminal background screenings on members at any time — not at sign-up, not later. Our Terms do not allow anyone to use Vennu who has been convicted of, or pleaded no contest to, a felony, a sex crime or a crime involving violence or a threat of violence, or who is required to register as a sex offender. If we learn that a member falls into any of these groups, we ban the account.
4. Identity and age
- We do not verify members’ identity. We don’t check government IDs or legal names.
- Age: Vennu is only for people 18 and over. Everyone gives their date of birth when signing up, and we use the age information Apple and Google provide to apps where available: an account the store reports as under 18 is blocked. Accounts that appear to belong to a minor — from a report or from our review — are reviewed first and removed. We don’t check age documents.
- Optional photo verification: a member can ask for a verified badge. They confirm a phone number, then take a selfie in a pose we choose, and a person on our team compares it with their profile photos. The badge is removed if later photos don’t match. It is not an identity or background check — see what the badge means.
5. How to report
If someone breaks these rules or makes you feel unsafe, please tell us. You can report:
- A member — from their profile, from the card in discovery, or from the menu in your chat with them.
- Someone you are no longer matched with (last 30 days) — in the app under Profile → Settings → Contact & FAQ → Safety Center.
- A group, a message in a group chat, or an event.
- Without an account — email reports@vennuapp.com. For intimate images shared without consent use our Take It Down request form.
Guidelines for a useful report:
- Pick the reason that fits best (for example “Threats or harm when meeting”, “Harassment”, “Asking for money or a scam”) and describe what happened, when and where.
- Keep screenshots or other evidence if you can do so safely.
- Report what happened on Vennu and what happened when you met in person.
- Do not submit false reports, and do not report anyone for malicious, biased, or other illegitimate reasons. Knowingly false reports are themselves a violation of our rules.
Reports are confidential: we never tell the reported member who reported them. Reporting a member also blocks them for you straight away.
If you have been harmed or threatened, please report it to us and to the police. In an emergency, call 911 first. We are not an emergency service.
6. How we handle reports, including harassment
- Every report is reviewed by a person on our safety team.
- Reports about threats or violence, minors and intimate images are reviewed first.
- We aim to review every report within 24 hours.
- We look at the report, the reported content, other reports about the same member and their enforcement history, and, for reports from a chat, the recent messages saved with the report.
- Depending on what we find, we remove content, issue a warning, suspend the account for a period of time, or ban it permanently (see Suspensions and bans).
- Intimate images shared without consent are removed, together with identical copies we know of, within 48 hours of a valid request.
The same process is summarized in our Community Guidelines.
7. Suspensions and bans
After a report — or when our own review finds a problem — we decide based on how serious the conduct is and whether it has happened before:
- Permanent ban, usually on the first confirmed report, for conduct that threatens anyone’s safety (section 1), anything involving minors, sharing intimate images without consent, fraud and scams, false identities, and for members our Terms don’t allow (section 3).
- Suspension for a set period, a warning, or removal of the content for other violations, such as spam or offensive profile content. Repeated violations lead to a ban.
- While we investigate a serious report, we may suspend an account right away.
A suspended or banned account is hidden from other members and cannot be used; a banned member can no longer sign in. We take steps to stop banned members from signing up again, such as blocking the phone number, email address or Apple or Google account they used.
8. Appeals
If your account is suspended or banned after a report, you can appeal.
- The app shows the reason category, whether the decision is permanent or when it ends, and your account ID.
- Tap Appeal this decision, or email support@vennuapp.com from the email address or with the phone number you used to sign in. Include your account ID if you have it and tell us why you think the decision is wrong.
- A person on our team reviews the appeal and the original report and replies by email. The suspension or ban stays in place while we review.
- If we got it wrong, we restore your account. We don’t reveal who reported you.
9. Notices to other members
We do not tell other members that a report has been received about someone — a report alone is not proof. We notify other members after we ban an account for fraud or for using a false identity:
- Who is notified: every member who had a one-to-one chat with the banned member in which messages were sent, and the members of group chats in which the banned member sent messages.
- When: the notice is created at the moment of the ban and sent right away.
- How: a push notification (which does not name the member), a notice in the Safety Center in the app, and an email if you have a confirmed email address and email notifications turned on.
- What it says: the banned member’s name and profile ID, that they were banned because they may have used a false identity or tried to get money from members through fraud, a reminder never to send money or financial details, what to do if you already sent money, and a link to the FTC’s advice on romance scams.
Bans for other reasons (for example harassment) do not trigger a notice to other members.
10. Police and law enforcement
- We encourage anyone who has been harmed to report it to the police as well as to us. A police report can help you and others.
- We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as federal law requires, and we preserve evidence as the law requires.
- We cooperate with law enforcement investigations and respond to valid legal process. Law enforcement can contact reports@vennuapp.com.
11. Our safety measures
- Adults only: date of birth at sign-up and app-store age signals where available.
- Optional photo verification, reviewed by a person, re-checked when photos change.
- Reporting from profiles, chats, groups, group messages and events, and for past matches; a web form and email for people without an account.
- Reporting or unmatching someone blocks them from contacting you.
- Human review of every report, with urgent categories first.
- Profile photos and profile text may be screened by automated tools as well as by our team.
- Warnings in the chat when a message asks for money or tries to move the conversation off Vennu.
- Suspensions and bans; banned members can no longer sign in.
- Notices to members who chatted with someone we banned for fraud or a false identity.
- Removal of intimate images within 48 hours of a valid Take It Down request.
- You choose which modes you are shown in (for example Love or Friends) and can turn them off.
- A Safety Center in the app with safety tips, scam warnings, your safety notices and help lines, and this Safety Center on the web.
