What the verified badge means

A verified badge makes it easier to trust that the person behind a profile is the person in the photos. It is useful — and it has limits. Here is exactly what it means.

What the badge means

A person on our team compared a selfie the member took in a pose we asked for (for example, a thumbs-up next to their cheek) with the photos on their profile, and decided they show the same person. The random pose makes it harder to pass off someone else’s photo.

If a verified member later adds new photos, our team checks them again. If the new photos don’t match, we remove the badge until the member verifies again.

What the badge does not mean

The badge is not an identity check and not a criminal background check. We don’t check government IDs, names, age documents, jobs, relationship status or criminal records. We make no promise about how any member will behave.

Phone verification

You can sign up with Apple, Google, an email code or a phone code. To get the verified badge you first confirm a phone number with a one-time code we send by text message. A confirmed phone number only shows that the member can receive texts at that number; it doesn’t confirm who they are.

How to get verified

  1. In the app, open your profile and tap Verify your profile (below your photos).
  2. If you haven’t yet, confirm your phone number.
  3. Copy the pose shown on screen and take a selfie with the front camera — good light, face clearly visible, just you in the picture.
  4. Submit it. A person on our team reviews it and you get a notification with the result. If it didn’t work, you can try again.

Verification is optional and free.

What happens to your selfie

  • Your selfie is stored privately. It is never shown on your profile or to other members, and it is used only for this check.
  • We delete it when our team has made a decision — and, as our Privacy Policy states, we keep it no longer than 30 days after the decision.
  • We don’t use face recognition or create a faceprint: the comparison is made by a person.
  • If you delete your account, a selfie still on file is deleted too.

Age

Vennu is for adults 18 and over. Everyone gives their date of birth when signing up, and we use the age information Apple and Google provide to apps where it is available. Accounts that appear to belong to someone under 18 are reviewed first and removed. How we handle age and identity is also described in our Safety Policy.
