How do I spot a romance scam?
Be careful if someone you haven't met asks for money, gift cards or crypto, pushes an 'investment', wants to move to another app right away, or always has a reason not to meet or video chat. Never send money to someone you only know online.
Warning signs
- They ask for money, gift cards, crypto or help with a bill, a ticket or an emergency.
- They talk about an "investment" or a trading app that can make you rich.
- They want to move off Vennu to another messaging app very quickly.
- They avoid video calls and keep cancelling plans to meet.
- Their story changes, or their photos look too perfect.
What to do
- Stop replying and don't send money.
- Report the profile in Vennu with the reason Asking for money or a scam or Fake profile.
- If you lost money, contact your bank and report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
